Official Statement Regarding the Sovereign Citizen Movement

 

The Moorish Science Temple of America (M.S.T. of A.) is not affiliated with, does not support, and does not promote the beliefs, practices, tactics, or ideologies commonly associated with the so-called “sovereign citizen” movement.

 

Founded in 1913 A.D. by the Holy Prophet Noble Drew Ali, the Moorish Science Temple of America is a lawfully chartered and incorporated religious organization whose teachings emphasize moral uplift, civic responsibility, peace, and obedience to the laws of the land. Our doctrine is rooted in respect for the constitutional framework of the United States of America and the duties and rights of its citizens.

 

As clearly stated in Act 5 of the Divine Constitution and By-Laws of the Moorish Science Temple of America:

 

“This organization of the Moorish Science Temple of America is not to cause any confusion or to overthrow the laws and constitution of the said government, but to obey hereby.”

 

This principle is foundational to our faith and practice. Members of the Moorish Science Temple of America are encouraged to be upright, productive, and law-abiding citizens who contribute positively to their communities and uphold the rule of law.

 

From time to time, individuals unaffiliated with the Moorish Science Temple of America have misused or misrepresented our name while engaging in disruptive, unlawful, or misleading conduct, particularly within judicial or governmental settings. Such individuals are not members of the Moorish Science Temple of America, and their actions do not reflect our teachings, leadership, or organizational principles.

 

The Moorish Science Temple of America remains committed to peaceful cooperation with lawful authorities, mutual respect, and clear understanding between our organization and governmental institutions at all levels.
