Proclaiming Your Nationality: A Divine and Civic Responsibility
An Instructional Editorial Based on Act 6 of the Divine Constitution and By-Laws
Act 6 of the Divine Constitution and By-Laws establishes a clear mandate: All members must proclaim their Nationality and Divine Creed. This proclamation is not symbolic, emotional, or optional. It is a lawful, conscious, and deliberate act of self-identification aligned with divine order and governmental recognition.
To proclaim one’s nationality is to stand in truth, to reject misnomers imposed during slavery, and to affirm one’s rightful place among the nations of the earth.
1. Understand What Nationality Is, and What It Is Not
Nationality is not a color, condition, or social label. Terms such as Negro, Black, Colored, or Ethiopian are not nationalities; they are classifications historically assigned to enslaved people by slaveholders between 1779 and 1865. These names reflected a status of bondage, not a national identity.
Act 6 teaches that this era has passed. We now live in a new time, where all free men must proclaim their free national name and Religion in order to be properly recognized by the government in which they live and by the nations of the earth.
2. Know Your Divine Creed
Before one can proclaim nationality outwardly, one must know it inwardly. The Divine Creed teaches who we are, where we come from, and our relationship to Allah and to government. Without knowledge of self, proclamations lack foundation.
Act 6 makes clear that this knowledge is not self created; it was ordained by Allah the Great God of the Universe through Noble Drew Ali, the Prophet, for the redemption and salvation of our people from their sinful ways, confusion, and misidentification.
3. Proclaim, Do Not Argue
Proclaiming nationality is not about debate or confrontation. It is a lawful declaration of identity made with clarity, dignity, and discipline. Proclamation means to affirm and stand on truth, not to seek permission or validation.
This proclamation may be made:
• In speech, by identifying oneself by one’s free national name
• In conduct, by living in harmony with divine and civil law
• In documentation, where lawful and appropriate
Recognition follows correct identification, not force.
4. Acknowledge Lineage and Descent
Act 6 teaches that Moorish Americans are descendants of the ancient Moabites, who inhabited the northwestern and southwestern shores of Africa. This affirms historical continuity.
Knowing one’s descent reinforces responsibility. A proclaimed nationality must be upheld through upright living, respect for law, and moral character.
5. Align With Government, Not Against It
Proclaiming nationality is not separation from government; it is proper standing within it. Act 6 emphasizes recognition by “the government in which they live and the nations of the earth.” This reflects harmony, not rebellion.
A proclaimed Moorish American understands that divine law and civil law are not enemies when one is operating in Love, Truth, Peace, Freedom, and Justice.
6. Live the Proclamation
Nationality is not merely spoken, it is lived. One’s actions, ethics, and discipline must reflect the Divine Creed. Redemption from sinful ways is an ongoing process, not a single declaration.
To proclaim is to accept responsibility:
• Responsibility to self
• Responsibility to family
• Responsibility to community
• Responsibility to Allah
Conclusion
Act 6 is a call to consciousness. To proclaim your nationality is to step out of misnomer into law, out of confusion into clarity, and out of inherited labels into divine identity. This proclamation restores dignity, establishes standing, and fulfills the purpose for which Prophet Noble Drew Ali was ordained.
Know who you are.
Proclaim it lawfully.
Live it righteously.
Peace.
